FAM Trip: Activity and adventure in the Highlands.

Updated: Jan 25, 2022

We were invited up to Aviemore in the Highlands of Scotland for the weekend, on an amazing and action packed Fam Trip. What an amazing destination, picturesque, and just an hour(ish) flight from London, with about a 30 minute transfer to the resort. It's a great option for groups of all kinds, corporate, families, those looking for an active activity based stay.

For those who don't know, FAM are "Familiarisation Trips" which event planners can be invited on to help get a real understanding of a venue, location or both. It enables us to be able to advise with confidence and detail to our clients and private groups. The Macdonald Highland Resort was our base camp and great option right in the heart of Aviemore.

The resort feel like you are in a friendly ski town set within the Alps. It boasts a range of options for your stay here, with an in house cinema, auditorium, gym, pool, 2 restaurants and a variety of room options ranging from 3* to 4* as well as a shared chalet option for families and groups.

In terms of activities, we started with a cocktail and pizza making masterclass at the hotel which work well for incentive groups. The next day we took to the Highlands and overcame 14 zip wires through the Caledonian forest, including the big finale - 550m across the valley! If this alone does not give you enough of an adrenaline fix, you can hike through the forest, race along in off road buggies to name a few options.

After lunch, we set off to Caingorm Brewery for an tasting. Really good fun for groups, even if ale is not your most favourite tipple. The tasting was informative and certainly not shy regards consuming their variety of products! Back at the resort, it was a really nice touch to have a taste session with Shetland Reel Gin, so often it is whiskey when in this part of the world (not that we complain). They have some really different types of gin on offer and well buying a bottle to try if you see them around.

To end the weekend on a very wet morning we skidded around a wet racetrack for some go kart fun. Another of the plentiful group activity options for your stay here. With so much to do here as well as being a beautiful part of the well (very instagrammable) it should be under consideration for corporate incentive groups, those wanting the ultimate in adventure weekends and for families. We were told they offer a fantastic Christmas themed family weekend across December.
