Planning a corporate event or team-building retreat in Hong Kong? Whether you're organising a networking soirée, incentive trip, team bonding day, or conference. Hong Kong offers an impressive range of venues and activities that blend professionalism with unforgettable experiences.

From sleek skyscrapers to tranquil harbourside spots. Here’s James Bacon (CEO - We Are MEaT) guide to the best corporate event options and group activities across Hong Kong and Hong Kong Island.

Logistics & Planning Tips:

Flights: As expected, Hong Kong is fantastically well connected globally for flights. There are a number of daily flights from major city hubs and for the UK it's around 12-14 hours direct flight.

Transportation: MTR and ferry services make it easy to shuttle teams between Kowloon and Hong Kong Island. I took the MTR high speed train from the airport to downtown Hong King Island in 20 minutes.

Seasonal Considerations: Autumn (Oct–Dec) offers the best weather for outdoor events and boat tours. It was very rainy in April when I was there..!

Hotels:

The Murray, Hong Kong Island. A sophisticated heritage hotel ideal for high-end corporate events. With elegant rooftop and garden venues, it's perfect for galas, cocktail receptions, and executive panels, combining timeless architecture with modern luxury. I was fortunate to stay here for my first night in Hong Kong.

The rooftop along with restaurant is amazing with a wraparound view of Hong Kong. It has a number of great event spaces for forums, conferences and events. Added to which it has first class AV built in at no added cost! It also boasts a couple of great outdoor event spaces sperate from the rooftop.

Situated right next to the tram station for Victoria Peak and within a 10 minute walk to the downtown area. It's a great option and base for your event and stay on the island.

Perfect for: High-end corporate galas, panel talks, cocktail receptions

This heritage hotel fuses classic architecture with modern luxury. Its rooftop restaurant and garden terrace provide elegant backdrops for networking and celebrations.

Marco Polo Hongkong Hotel. My second night was across the bay in Kowloon. Its prestigious location along Canton Road—right on the Tsim Sha Tsui waterfront—places it within walking distance of the Star Ferry and MTR, making it highly accessible for local and international attendees. If you pick the right room, you can literally watch the Avenue of the Stars lightshow from your window. But I'd highly recommend being on the waterfront for that!

As well as it's close proximity to the Avenue of the Stars, it has direct access to Harbour City (HK’s largest shopping complex) and close proximity to cultural venues, making it excellent for incentive-based stays.

Other hotels to note:

  • Four Seasons Hotel Hong Kong – Central

  • Mandarin Oriental - Central

  • Island Shangri-La – Admiralty

  • JW Marriott Hotel – Admiralty

  • The Ritz-Carlton, Hong Kong – West Kowloon

  • Rosewood Hong Kong – Tsim Sha Tsui

  • The Peninsula - Tsim Sha Tsui

  • Grand Hyatt Hong Kong – Wan Chai

Things to see and do:

There are many amazing monasteries and temples in Hong Kong. Due to timings, I could only visit one on my most recent trip. But what a one to see - Man Mo Temple is one of the oldest and most historically significant temples in Hong Kong. Tucked between modern buildings in Sheung Wan, it offers a peaceful, incense-filled contrast to the city’s fast pace. The temple was built during the Qing dynasty and has long served as a spiritual refuge for scholars and civil servants.

Just a 10 minute walk from Downtown Hong Kong Island and in the famous Hollywood Road area. It's a must visit venue when in the area.

Aqua Luna - one of Hong Kong’s most distinctive floating venues—combining heritage charm, skyline spectacle, and high-level event production flair. Sail through Victoria Harbour with panoramic skyline views—a unique backdrop for networking, product launches, and VIP receptions . Nothing is more iconic in Hong Kong than the old junk boats. So what an experience cruising in the harbour at sunset or during the festival of lights show.

Movie Moments - being a fan of films, there are a number of iconic movie moments set in Hong Kong. On Hong Kong Island you have several locations featured in Transformers films. In Kowloon I especially liked the Bruce Lee statue at the end of the Avenue of the Stars. But also the stunning Peninsula Hotel (Bond Fans), sadly no green Rolls Royces on show that day!

Simply walking around Hong Kong you will feel like you're on the set of a movie.

Temple Street - Temple Street Night Market is one of Hong Kong’s most iconic street markets, buzzing with energy, neon lights, and the sounds of bargaining, opera music, and sizzling woks. It's a vibrant microcosm of local life, offering everything from street food and fortune telling to bargain fashion and quirky souvenirs.

It's not just a market—it's a cultural experience. It captures the raw energy of old Hong Kong and remains a favourite spot for both tourists and locals. Ideal for casual evening strolls, street food adventures, or a more laid-back group outing with a taste of local colour. It's busy and frenetic like most of Kowloon to be fair. But it makes it no less of an experience. Be mindful that the street food can literally be anything. Certain dishes I was especially not prepared for! If you can, make sure you get your fortune read from the local tellers there.

The Central–Mid-Levels Escalator - is the longest outdoor covered escalator system in the world, connecting the bustling business district of Central to the residential Mid-Levels area. Originally built to ease commuter congestion, it has since evolved into a vibrant corridor of urban life.

More than a transit system, it is a symbol of Hong Kong’s vertical urban design and work-life fusion. It seamlessly merges convenience with culture, making it a unique touchpoint for visitors and professionals alike.

I have to admit, and this may have been because I was on my own for this one. But I didn't really get the fascination with this one personally. But it could work great for VIP Walkthroughs or cultural breaks during business visits. Organised guided walks or food tours along the escalator route through SoHo for informal bonding or executive downtime.

Other things to note:

Victoria Peak: The highest point on Hong Kong Island, Victoria Peak offers breathtaking panoramic views of the city skyline, Victoria Harbour, and surrounding islands. Visitors reach the summit via the historic Peak Tram—one of the world’s oldest funicular railways.

Frustratingly, due to weather I didn't get a chance to go up to the peak. Event though I was staying right by it. I simply would not have seen anything from being up there. But I am told the views across Hong Kong are a must see.

Big Buddah - The world’s largest outdoor seated bronze Buddha statue (34 meters tall), symbolizing harmony and spirituality. The statue sits near the Po Lin Monastery, accessible via the scenic Ngong Ping 360 cable car.

Again due to weather and timings, I sadly never had a chance to get out to Lantern Island (other than the airport!) But this along with the fishing villages are again a must see should you have more time and better fortune than I had weather wise!

Some Key Unique Dining & Networking Options:

Popinjays Rooftop at The Murray - Central: An elegant yet vibrant rooftop experience—perfect for corporate planners seeking a venue that combines sophistication, flexibility, and cityscape grandeur. Whether you’re hosting evening cocktails, client dinners, or exclusive networking events, it’s a standout choice on the Hong Kong event landscape.

Ozone at The Ritz-Carlton – Kowloon (Close to Island via MTR) - Take networking to new heights—literally. Host a mixer or cocktail event at the highest bar in the world with breathtaking views over the harbour.

Beef & Liberty Rooftop – Wan Chai: Great for casual get-togethers or end-of-day drinks. The relaxed, open-air environment is ideal for mingling and unwinding after a business-heavy day.

Aberdeen Fish Market Private Tour & Seafood Feast - Dive into the heart of Hong Kong’s fishing culture with a guided market tour, followed by a freshly cooked seafood meal—authentic, interactive, and memorable.

Summary:

Hong Kong is more than a global financial hub—it’s a playground of possibilities for companies looking to inspire, engage, and reward their teams. Whether you’re planning a high-level board meeting or a creative team outing, Hong Kong Island offers the perfect mix of professionalism, culture, and fun.
