Why Belfast Is Winning Over Event Planners

When it comes to sourcing destinations that genuinely surprise delegates, deliver exceptional value, and offer memorable experiences beyond the conference room, Belfast is rapidly becoming one of the UK and Ireland’s most compelling MICE destinations.

Our recent familiarisation trip with voco® Belfast and key hospitality partners gave us the opportunity to experience first-hand exactly why Belfast is attracting increasing attention from corporate event planners, incentive buyers, association organisers and agency decision makers alike.

Over three days, we explored a carefully curated mix of hotels, event venues, cultural experiences, food concepts and networking spaces that demonstrated Belfast’s ability to deliver world class events with genuine personality.

A City Built for Experiences, Not Just Meetings

One of Belfast’s biggest strengths is accessibility. Within minutes of arriving, delegates can move from airport transfer to hotel check in, and quickly into immersive networking experiences.

Our base for the trip, voco® Belfast, showcased exactly what modern planners are increasingly prioritising: contemporary design, relaxed luxury, strong sustainability credentials and versatile event capabilities. The property also benefits from a prime riverside location near the River Lagan, making it ideal for both corporate groups and incentive programmes.

For planners, that combination matters. Easy logistics reduce delegate fatigue and create more time for meaningful engagement.

Venue Diversity That Delivers Delegate Impact

What stood out throughout the fam trip was Belfast’s incredible variety of event ready spaces.

Titanic Belfast was one of the clear highlights. We were given a VIP private tour that focused on the true story behind the Titanic, not simply the film version most people know. The experience explored Belfast’s shipbuilding heritage, the personal stories of passengers and crew, and the emotional human cost connected to the tragedy itself. It brought a completely different depth to the venue experience and demonstrated exactly why Titanic Belfast works so well for corporate events that want to leave a lasting impression. Alongside the storytelling, the venue itself offers exceptional space for conferences, gala dinners and large scale receptions.

Ulster Rugby Stadium offered a completely different style of venue but one equally relevant for planners. The stadium combines strong conference facilities with the energy and atmosphere that sporting venues naturally create. It works exceptionally well for corporate hospitality, networking events and dinner receptions. Over the past few years, we have planned several successful events in stadium venues across the UK and Ireland, and they consistently prove popular with clients looking for something beyond a traditional hotel setting.

The Bedford Hotel showcased Belfast’s growing luxury hotel scene perfectly. As one of the city’s newest five star boutique hotels, it brings a fresh and contemporary feel while still delivering the personal service and intimacy many corporate groups now prefer over larger chain properties.

The Merchant Hotel remains one of Belfast’s most iconic venues. The building itself is stunning, filled with Gatsby-esque character and architectural detail throughout. The Grand Room absolutely lives up to its name and creates an incredible backdrop for premium receptions and gala dinners, while Bert’s Jazz Bar offers a more relaxed setting ideal for informal networking events and evening entertainment.

Authentic Experiences That Delegates Remember

Modern events increasingly succeed because of the experiences surrounding them, and Belfast delivers this naturally.

One of the standout venues for many of the clients attending the fam trip was McConnell’s Distillery. Set within a beautifully refurbished former jail, the venue combines history, atmosphere and modern event capability in a genuinely unique way. From whisky tastings to private networking events, it offered the kind of memorable experience delegates talk about long after the event itself has finished.

The city’s food and social scene also played a huge role throughout the trip.

Dinner at Ten Square Hotel alongside time spent exploring St George’s Market highlighted a destination that feels authentic and welcoming rather than overly polished for tourism.

That authenticity matters. Delegates notice it, engage with it and remember it.

Why Event Planners Should Pay Attention

Belfast offers a combination that is becoming increasingly difficult to find in one destination:

  • High quality venues
  • Competitive pricing
  • Walkable city centre
  • Strong hotel offering
  • Direct access from major UK cities
  • Excellent hospitality
  • Genuine cultural experiences
  • A destination that still feels fresh to attendees

For planners trying to create events people genuinely enjoy attending, Belfast gives you a lot to work with.

Summary

This trip reinforced something we already believed at We Are MeAT. The best events are built around memorable human experiences, not simply meeting spaces.

Belfast delivers exactly that.

It feels welcoming, energetic and easy to experience. It has enough scale to host major conferences and corporate gatherings, while still retaining the personality and warmth that many larger cities have lost.

For anyone planning conferences, incentives or corporate events in 2026 and beyond, Belfast should absolutely be part of the conversation.
